Facebook Groups and Rules
The CPDJA manages regional Facebook groups, an official members-only Facebook group and a large nationwide, non-member specific Facebook group. These groups serve as online discussion forums for Canadian DJs and they are open to various audiences.
The official CPDJA members-only Facebook group is The Exclusive. This group serves as a way for members to more directly participate in helping other members (and being helped) as well as discuss association matters, keep up on association news and it serves as a vehicle for educational initiatives the association creates for members.
We also have an open National Facebook group and local regional Facebook groups that are generally open to both association members, non-members (prospective members), Allied Member representatives and invited guests. In order to ensure the healthy and prosperous longevity of the CPDJA Facebook groups, the below CPDJA Facebook group rules have been established.
With acceptance of the following rules, DJs are welcome to join The Exclusive (CPDJA members only) or the open National Facebook group and/or any of the following regional Facebook groups (some regional groups are for association members only): Atlantic Canada, Barrie-Simcoe-Muskoka-Grey Bruce, Burlington-Oakville, Durham, Halton-Peel, Hamilton-Brantford, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Manitoba, Niagara, Ottawa, Peterborough, Sudbury, Toronto Centre, Toronto North, Western Canada.
The CPDJA Facebook groups exist for education, training and support for each other as professional Canadian DJs.
We are all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required. Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
Profanity, discussions of drug or alcohol abuse, sexual humour, ethnic slurs, personal insults, obscenities and other related negative behaviour will not be tolerated. Do not engage in any conduct that would not otherwise be acceptable in the workplace.
Give more to the CPDJA Facebook groups than you take. This ensures value for everyone. With the exception of some limited promotional opportunities we provide to our Allied Members, all personal or DJ business related soliciting, contests, self-promotion, unauthorized live-streaming, watch parties and sharing of irrelevant links are not permitted.
Political and religious posts are not appropriate in CPDJA Facebook groups and will be removed immediately. Respect the law, including those laws governing defamation, discrimination, harassment, copyright and fair use. Publication of copyrighted material is not allowed unless you can provide license to be able to share it.
Being part of Facebook groups requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in a Facebook group should stay in the group. If something isn’t meant for or appropriate for everyone in the group, take it private (such as into Facebook Messenger).
Group members are prohibited from deleting threads they have started after another member has replied to it. If a thread you have started contains comments not fitting the purpose of the group, please report it for moderation (click/tap the three little dots or hold finger on comment). Deleting an active thread without permission from an admin may result in removal from the group.
A first time offender will be given a warning and their post(s)/comment(s) will be removed immediately. Continuing violations will lead to the user being removed and banned from the group without further warning. The blocking of an Admin or Moderator of any CPDJA Facebook group will result in immediate removal from the group. If a member of a CPDJA Facebook group discovers a post or comment that violates these rules, please use the reporting function (click/tap the three little dots or hold finger on comment) and group moderators will deal with the report.
Let’s interact with one another like we would face-to-face, in “real” life. The life of you and everyone in the CPDJA Facebook groups will be better that way. If it’s late at night (early in the morning) and someone isn’t behaving in an appropriate manner, simply report the post and then take a social media break until the following day. Remember, participation in Facebook groups is not a right, it is a privilege, so let’s remember to treat it as one.
Do not post photos of you and/or fellow group members that may reflect poorly on the group member or the CPDJA. All confidential group member and CPDJA information should remain just that way—confidential. All members in good standing of the CPDJA are also reminded that they are held accountable to the CPDJA Code of Ethics and Conduct.
